The Down to Earth Band is a R&B/Funk band that has its roots in the early 1970s. In those early years the band performed in local clubs and ballrooms, with a healthy fill of out-door concerts. Back then the band consisted of mainly a rhythm section and lead vocalist , with the band singing background vocals. Later, in the latter part of the 70's the band adopted a three-piece horn section. This gave the band the ability to perform the big band sounds of the 80's such as songs by the Gap Band, Kool and the Gang, Chicago and other well-know Big bands of that era.
In the mid 80's the band disbanded and the members went on independently to perform for many of the recording artist of that time, including Freddie Jackson, Billy Paul, Dee-Dee Sharp Gamble and worked with various producers and song writers such as Bunny Sigler, Sam Peaks and other well know artist. The Down to Earth Band remained disbanded until 2012, when Lead guitar player Fritz "Unchie" Johnson made a call out to re-assemble the band. Well, that was all it took, the original rhythm section answered the call; and performed its first concert at an out-door event in North Philly.
Once again, the rhythm section agreed that to get back to the top form, we would need to bring on a popping horn section. The call was made to Leonard "Lenny" Outen a saxophonist known for performing during our early years with big bands, such as Brutus, recording artist Fat Larry's Band and others. Lenny answered the call and brought with him a trumpet player and trombone player, known today as the Shake-Down horn section. Since that re-unification, the Down To Earth Band has performed at clubs, banquets, casinos ,parties and concerts around the Tri-State area.
